Joscelyn: High School Senior Photography in Humboldt Iowa

There’s something really special about meeting a senior for the very first time and instantly feeling like you’ve known them longer. That was exactly the case with Joscelyn. She made the trek from Fort Dodge, and from the moment we started, her energy was easy and it was genuine. And of course, she didn’t come alone. Her sweet puppy Winnie completely stole the show in the very best way. I’m always here for seniors bringing a little piece of their real life into their session, and Winnie added so much personality and joy to the whole experience.
This stunning girl describes herself as caring, kind, and energetic, and I felt that couldn’t be more accurate. She has this natural way of making people feel comfortable just by being, well, herself. Pair that with her involvement in both dance team and marching band, and you get someone who knows how to show up, stay committed, and bring a positive presence wherever she goes. There’s a steady confidence in her, but it feels grounded and real.
One of my favorite parts about her session was how smoothly everything flowed. Some sessions feel a little more guided, but this one felt like it unfolded on its own. We moved through locations with ease, laughed a lot, and never once felt rushed. She told me afterward how much she loved the locations and how simple the whole experience felt, and that means everything to me. Before her session, Joscelyn didn’t come in with a list of worries or concerns, which is always refreshing. Still, hearing her say she felt completely comfortable being herself meant a lot. She shared that my personality helped everyone relax, and those words stick with me. Creating a space where seniors can just be who they are without overthinking is something I work so hard for!
What I love most about Joscelyn is the heart behind everything she does. She looks up to her dad, which says so much about her character. The way she talks about him shows gratitude and a desire to grow into someone who shows up for others in the same way. That same mindset shows up in her future plans too. She’s planning to pursue nursing as a way to care for people who need it most. There’s purpose behind that decision.
She also shared a piece of advice she would give her younger self, and it’s something so many seniors need to hear. Don’t overthink everything. Put yourself out there. Experience it all. High school goes by quickly, and Joscelyn has learned to lean into that instead of holding back. That growth is part of what makes her such a natural leader.
When I asked what she’ll tell her friends about her session, her answer made me smile. She said it was super fun and a really good experience, and that she would absolutely recommend it. That’s always the goal, but hearing it in her words makes it even better. Joscelyn, I’m so thankful I got to meet you and capture this season for you. And if you’re reading this and thinking about your own senior session, this is your sign to go for it. Come armed with your puppy and your personality!
